Broken Strings | #MusicMonday

This weeks Music Monday choice is one of my first ever favourites and has been since I was ten!

This weeks song choice is...

'Broken Strings' by James Morrison feat. Nelly Furtado

'Broken Strings' was the third single from James Morrison, a British singer-songwriter musician. This was released from his second studio album, 'Songs for You, Truths for Me' and was released on 8th December 2008. This song features Nelly Furtado who is  Canadian singer-songwriter.
The single soon became the most successful single to date for Morrison as it reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in January 2009, not long after it was released. It also was in the top ten on many other European charts.
This song was, and still is, a huge success!

(Video above is only available on some platforms so click here to access it if it isn't showing )

Morrison's video for this song made its world premier on 17th Novermber 2008. Both Furtado and Morriso filmed their parts on different days.

Hope you liked this weeks song and I hope to see you next Monday with another song!

How is taking a 'no make-up selfie' helping to cure cancer?!

How is taking a selfie without make-up helping to cure cancer? Im sure, just like myself, many are wondering the exact same!
Recently social media (Especially Facebook) have been flooding with 'Nek Nominations' and now...a new phase has risen. The 'No make-up Selfie'.

So how did this all starts?
Well, apparently a few days ago a man said he would donate 25p for each and every woman who uploaded a 'selfie' of themselves wearing no make-up.  And soon, just under two days of him posting that, women all over the world and all ages started to get involved.
This week my news feed has been filled with photos of bare faced girls, all naturally beautiful, trying to raise awareness. Not only that but I have also spotted people questioning the whole point of this - saying that they should be donating to charity themselves instead of posting these pointless photos. But with that said are they missing the point? As the aim is to raise awareness of cancer charities and campaigns and not the money. By getting everyone to post these selfies it is getting people talking about cancer and raising the though of the charities that are out there that need help!
How many people out there do you think donated to a cancer charity (e.g.- cancer research) after seeing what is happening on social media sites, in particular, Facebook? I reckon a lot of people did, and are still continuing to donate.

Whilst it can be annoying to have your feed flooded with similar things to what everyone is uploading, it has encouraged people to donate and increase awareness!

Although spreading awareness is amazing, fundraising and donating is vital and everyone should be willing to donate, even those who are not uploading a make-up free picture of themselves. So text BEAT to 70099 and donate!

If raising awareness in this way gets us one step closer to a cure for this terrible disease, I would go make-up free for the rest of my life...possibly ;)

REMEMBER! As much as you look beautiful without make-up on, and raising a great deal of awareness, please don't stop there and donate £3 by texting BEAT to 70099 now!

Make My Heart Fly | #MusicMonday

This weeks Music Monday choice is another cover but this time it is a song by 'The Proclaimers' which is covered in the musical film 'Sunshine on Leith'

This weeks song choice is...

'Make My Heart Fly' covered by Kevin Guthrie and Freya Mavor

This cover was released on 4th October 2013 as one of 13 songs in the British musical film, 'Sunshine on Leith' which is another song featured in the film, originally by 'The Proclaimers'.

The film was a great success for box offices, grossing £4.1 million! -On its first week it debuted at number three with £770,00 and the following week, it rose to number two with a weekly take of £732,296!
The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews and is a five-star sensation!

(Video above is only available on some platforms)

For those who aren't aware, 'Sunshine on Leith' is based on the outstanding hit of the same name featuring music by 'The Proclaimers'. The film follows the stories of Davy and Ally, who are returning from Afghanistan and have to re-learn how to live life in Edinburgh. Both of them struggle to live a life outside of the army and having to deal with the everyday struggles of jobs, relationships and of course, family.

This is a cracking film and I recommend going away and watching it if you Havant done so already!

Hope you liked this weeks song and I will see you next Monday with another song!

Marry the Night | #MusicMonday

This weeks Music Monday choice is a song that I have been slightly obsessed with since seeing the performance on the 'Fox' TV show, 'Glee'.

This weeks song choice is...

'Marry the Night' by "Starchild" aka Elliott Gilbert (Portrayed by Adam Lambert)

This cover was released on 30th October 2013 as one of four songs as part of the episode 'A Katy or a Gaga'. Even if you are not a fan of 'Glee' (Unlike myself) it doesn't matter! Adam Lambert's performance of this song is absolutely stunning and its down to his breathtaking, powerful voice and awesome "self-designed and sewed" outfit.

Lambert's vocal ability seems to have no limits and when he takes off, its like a rocket has been launched!- I love Lambert and this cover!

'Marry the Night' is a song by the world famous American recording artist, Lady Gaga, if you did not already know that. "Marry the Night" is a dance-pop song influenced by electro rock and house. You could say that the lyrics of the song are a tribute to Gaga's love for nightlife and partyingIt was released as the fifth and final single from her second album, 'Born This Way' from 2011.

Hope you liked this weeks song and I will see you next Monday with another song!

Lunch with KayCee!

I always though pet friendly places were sparsely populated and you were limited to 'Pets at Home', but I couldn't of been more wrong! I was surprised when my mum told be that there were dog friendly cafe's within a 15 minute drive all over Edinburgh so I knew a outing for lunch with KayCee was on the To-Do-List.
Today we decided to head uptown to a lovely cafe called 'Nom De Plume'.
This is a great little cafe with distinctive decor in a great part of town. The staff are very friendly and polite whilst the food was amazing and excellent value!

I got one of my favourite meals, Nachoes and Cheese, whilst my mum got the French onion Soup and KayCee......a bowl of cold, fresh water - just how a dog likes it. Haha.
Following that I got a delicious chocolate brownie and a tea whilst my mum tucked into a almond croissant and cappuccino.

I will definitely be visiting there again and will definitely recommend it!

It's Pancake Day!

Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone!! Or as it's mostly called...PANCAKE DAY!!! And do you know what that means? Yes...you are indeed right, PANCAKES!

The expression "Shrove Tuesday" comes from the word shrive, meaning "confess". As today precedes Ash Wednesday it is tradition to make pancakes. These are associated with this day as a way to use up rich foods such as eggs and sugar before the fasting season (Lent).

And I know some of you are put off with the amount of calories a pancake has in it...okay few of you are put off, but for those who are do not worry!
The NHS have said,“Within a healthy balanced diet, a man needs around 2,500kcal a day to maintain his weight. For a woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal a day".
So lets say for argument sake, a pancake has about 200 calories in it per 100g. If you were to eat 3 pancakes it would add up to 800 calories so that leaves you more than enough for your lunch and dinner.
But do you know what. ITS PANCAKE DAY for goodness sake! This only happens once a year so stop counting those calories and slap on the Nutella and smuther that thing in strawberries and cream! Hahaha.

Have a very sweet day guys, enjoy! :D

Kids | #MusicMonday

As its Monday, that means its time for a new song.
This weeks choice of song is....

'Kids' by MGMT

This song was released on 13th October 2008 and was the third single from MGMT's album 'Oracular Spectacular'.

To date this single has peaked at number 9 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. NME named it the number one song on its list of Best Singles of 2008 and in October 2011, NME placed it as number 99 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". Also Rolling stone named it number 46 on their list of Best songs of the 2000s.
After exiting the UK Top 40, the song was feature in an add for the TV show, Waterloo Road on BBC One. Due to this the song became popular again and gained renewed interest, re-entering the UK Top 40. On 16th January 2009 'Kids' reached number 16 which at the time, was the highest position to date. The single received huge amounts of airplay in the USA, UK, Ireland and Australia before the release date and the song got to number 1 on the Norwegian chart, based on downloads alone!

Kids was selected as the soundtrack for FIFA '09 and was also featured in the BBC's Survivors, American Teen, Paris Hilton's British Best Friend, Gossip Girl, Waterloo Road, The Vampire Diaries and many, many more!

(Video above is only available on some platforms)

On June 3, 2009, MGMT released the official music video for "Kids". The video follows a toddler menaced by monsters that his inattentive mother can't see.
The video has been criticized for its treatment of the toddler who appears to be truly frightened throughout the video, though it is stated on the MGMT website "No children were harmed in the making of this video." In addition, the band decided to released a "behind the scenes" video that shows the toddler laughing while interacting with the puppets and the cast in monster costumes.
The YouTube video has received over 29 million views.

Hope you liked this weeks song choice and I will see you next Music Monday with another brand new song!
