THE SOUND OF SILENCE || MUSIC MONDAY

For this weeks Music Monday I bring you a song that I listen to every single day without fail.

The Sound Of Silence covered by Disturbed

Disturbed is an American heavy metal band from Chicago, and though I don't particularly like heavy metal nor any other song from Disturbed, their cover of The Sound Of Silence (Originally by American music duo Simon & Garfunkel) is from the other side of the spectrum.

After releasing six studio albums, five of which have consecutively debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Disturbed went into hiatus in October 2011. The band returned in June 2015 releasing their first album in five years, Immortalised, which includes their cover of The Sound Of Silence.

Their version of The Sound Of Silence appeared in the trailer of Gears of War 4 and as of June 2016, the single has sold over a million digital downloads and has been streamed over 54 million times. The music video which was released on December 8th 2015 has over 81 million views on YouTube.

Another version of this song that I particularly like is from my favourite Irish singing group (featuring Damian Mcginty😁), Celtic Thunder. Since the original group’s formation in 2007, Celtic Thunder have released 12 albums - The Sound Of Silence featuring on their album, Mythology. Unlike the version from Disturbed, Celtic Thunder’s is more acoustic, relaxing and…Irish...?

I really love both covers of this great song originally by Simon & Garfunkel, and I hope it has helped you fight some of those Monday blues away!
